Our Vision
We hope to create a well crafted, in depth resource that:
empowers Sikhs and non-Sikhs in having respectful conversations with respect to Sikh practices and the law,
facilitates change in law, policy and procedures where needed, and
inspire all Australians (Sikh and non-Sikh) to work together in overcoming challenges and move towards a more inclusive future.
We strive to provide:
clear, factual information with respect to Sikh practices in Australia free from bias. We report what we observe rather than what we believe. We do not seek to use this platform to debate religious doctrine or philosophy
a reference to the relevant legal frameworks applicable with respect to where Sikh practices intersect with Australian law
user friendly information that to allow for better ‘first conversations’ when Sikhs and non-Sikhs have issues around Sikh practices and the interaction with Australian law
some relevant tools for Sikhs to be able to advocate for themselves.
We will also seek to:
partner with those people/organisations that has worked in this field before by ensuring we present their work in the best possible light and appropriately recognise those that should be acknowledged for that work. This applies with respect to advocacy for law change and policy as well as organisations that advocate for clients. If you spot something missing on this site, please contact us so we can update, rectify and acknowledge your/their contribution.
document and preserve the history of Sikh civil rights in Australia by acknowledging all of those that have championed Sikh civil rights in Australia and maintaining a record of their work.
We will not:
reinvent the wheel by recreating or attributing work that has already been undertaken
seek to displace those organisations, people or relationships forged by people and organisations who have over the years conducted some incredible work to advocate for Sikh rights including interacting with various levels of government and other non-governmental organisations.
